Celebrations of Chinese New Year in Malta

celebrationsofchinesenewyearinmaltaOne of the major hotels that cater for the business meetings and conference industry The Grand Hotel Excelsior, Floriana, will welcome the Chinese New Year this evening with an Asian-themed buffet dinner and fireworks display.

The celebratory buffet dinner will begin at 8 p.m. It is priced at €35 for adults and €17.50 for children between the ages of six and 11.  The spectacular fireworks display is scheduled to start at 10 p.m.  All throughout the week, the hotel decorated its lobby with Chinese decorations and an eight-metre dragon that came all the way from China.  Several other hotels and restaurants also put up decorations and special menus to celebrate this important festival as The Chinese New Year, better known in China as the Spring Festival, is a time to welcome longevity, wealth and prosperity and to leave behind any negative events from the past.

In Chinese tradition, each year is dedicated to one of 12 animals, and 2012 is the Year of the Dragon. People born in the Year of the Dragon are supposed to have natural charisma and are certainly gifted with power and luck.
