Build a Boat

This is a great outdoor event that sees teams involved in building boats out of cardboard, tape and plastic - which will actually carry two people and stay afloat. It is an excellent team event suitable during the warmer months of the year, which includes communication skills, group consensus, teamwork and quality.

The Building of the Boats

The whole group is split up in smaller teams of 5-10 participants per team. Each individual team is supplied with large sheets of cardboard, plastic sheeting, tape and scissors. Out of the material given, teams have to build a boat that will actually carry two people and stay afloat. Teams are also given two broomsticks which they have to transform into oars.

The Presentation

Besides the actual challenge of building the boat, teams have to come up with a presentation of the finished product. This has to include a briefing on the features of the boat, a song and a dance. During the presentation judges will give points depending on the originality, performance and teamwork shown.

The Race

And finally the best bit comes when we test the quality of the boats as all teams have to put their boats at sea and race them.
